Student Grievance Redressal (SGRC)

A Student Grievance Redressal Cell is an institutional mechanism established within educational institutions to address and resolve complaints, concerns and grievances raised by students in a fair, transparent and time-bound manner.

PURPOSE

The primary purpose of this cell is to provide students with a formal platform where they can voice their concerns without fear of victimization. It aims to maintain a harmonious educational environment by promptly addressing issues related to academic matters, administrative decisions, harassment, discrimination, infrastructure problems or any other matters affecting student welfare.

FUNCTIONS

The cell typically handles various types of grievances including academic irregularities, unfair evaluation practices, issues with faculty or staff behavior, problems with facilities and services, fee related disputes and concerns about institutional policies.

COMPOSITION

The cell comprises faculty members, administrative representatives and sometimes student representatives to ensure diverse perspectives. A coordinator leads the cell and ensures its effective functioning.

WORKING MECHANISM

When a grievance is filled, the cell follows a systematic process. First, the complaint is registered and acknowledged. Then it is examined for validity and categorized based on its nature. The cell investigates the matter by gathering relevant information and consulting with concerned parties. Finally, appropriate action is recommended or taken and the student is informed about the resolution.

BENEFITS

This mechanism promotes accountability within the institution, protects student rights, improves institutional policies based on feedback and fosters trust between students and management. It serves as a safety valve that prevents minor issues from escalating into major conflicts, thereby contributing to a positive academic atmosphere where students feel heard, respected and supported in their educational journey.
